Want to know if conveyor belt scanners or ore sorting machines can be used to improve your mining process?
Having trouble finding the best solution from the broad range of analysers and scanners available?
RockDataWorks can help!
RockDataWorks is an expert in the field of sensor-based material analysis. We are experienced in evaluating sensor feasibility for various mineral resources and developing scanning applications that work.
Our mission is to enhance the sustainability of mining by providing innovative sensor solutions that decrease mining waste production and improve mineral resource utilization. We do this by offering the following services:
RockDataWorks’ free open-access knowledge base with articles covering all the ins and outs of using sensors to scan ores. From selecting the best sensors for a specific ore type to finding equipment suppliers and developing real-time data analytics. Check out RockDataAcademy to learn more.
Each mineral deposit has its own unique mineralogical characteristics, and useful sensor solutions therefore differ from mine to mine. RockDataWorks can identify the best potential sensor solutions for your operations through our in-depth understanding of the detection capabilities of the different sensing techniques. The result is a short-list of sensors to focus on, and a road map of how to develop these into useful scanning applications.
Creating a proof-of-concept that a certain sensor type can detect ore quality parameters with sufficient accuracy. This is based on sensor measurements on a set of samples. Our feasibility investigations also provide a list of requirements and recommendations on sensor hardware to achieve optimal detection capabilities.
RockDataWorks can help implement sensor solutions through our network of sensor equipment suppliers. Through our involvement we ensure that sensor calibration procedures are correctly executed to provide reliable scanning information, and avoid overly optimistic results. We provide strategies to take data accuracy and uncertainty into account to guarantee that any decision making is based on realistic results.
RockDataWorks is skilled in using AI and machine learning techniques to develop sensor calibrations and data analytics. We strive to maximise the value of information that can be derived from a dataset. Apart from sensor data, this can also be applied to other data types such as geochemical drill hole data.
RockDataWorks provides workshops and training to mining professionals and R&D groups who want to learn more about developing sensor solutions for scanning ores and rocks in mining. Get in touch to enquire about the current possibilities.
Different sensing technologies can be used to detect ore grade and other important properties.
Measuring the transmission of X-rays through a material to reveal differences in density. Useful if ore minerals have a different density than other minerals in the rock.
Using a laser to measure Raman scattering when light is reflected from a rock’s surface. The quantity of almost all minerals can be detected with this technique.
Creating a strong magnetic field to cause resonances in the atomic nuclei of the different elements within the ore. Chemical composition is determined by measuring these resonances.
Measuring disturbances in an electro-magnetic field when an ore material is passed through it. Used to detect the quantity of electrally conductive minerals.
RockDataWorks is a leading expert in material sensing applications for the mining and mineral processing industry. Our mission is to enhance the sustainability of mineral resource utilization by providing the mining industry with improved knowledge about the grade and composition of their ores. Through innovative sensor solutions, we enable mining companies to make better informed decisions, optimize their operations, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Marinus Dalm PhD.
I am a sensor application specialist with over a decade of experience in researching and developing ore sensing solutions for mining. I have worked on a variety of sensor applications including drill-core, drill chip, and conveyor belt scanning, as well as mine face mapping and ore sorting. My background in mining and geology along with my passion for physics, machine learning and technological innovation have given me a deep understanding of the possibilities and limitations of using sensors for a wide variety of ore and mineral deposits.
I have founded RockDataWorks because I believe that real-time material sensing can be used to significantly improve the resource efficiency and sustainability of any mining operation in the world. Through RockDataWorks I want to support development and integration of ore sensing applications into mining and contribute to a more responsible utilization of mineral resources.
